You may have seen this all over tik tok and instagram recently. I know I have. But just how does the Wrap Hack work and is it really a quicker and better way to make a toastie tortilla.

Well, I am not convinced. It is a quick and simple way to make a toasted tortilla but I am not sure it is the best way.

How to do the Wrap Hack

Here’s how to do the wrap hack:

  1. Layout your tortilla wrap and cut a line, with scissors, to the centre of the wrap.
  2. visually divide up your wrap into quarters
  3. Place your ingredients into each quarter of wrap
  4. Starting with the quarter to the right of the cut line, fold each quarter of the wrap over on to the next quarter as you move around the wrap anti-clockwise
  5. Once all wrapped into a neat triangle transfer to your toastie maker and cook for 10 minutes

What’s good about the TikTok wrap hack

So, what’s good about this quick wrap technique.

Well, the first thing is that it is very easy to understand and repeat.

Also, it is very easy to move the tortilla wrap over to the toastie maker and bring down the lid.

What I don’t like about the TikTok wrap hack

Now, before lots of people start sending me angry emails I will state that this is just my opinion and you are welcome to make your toasted tortilla wrap however you like. Just as long as it follows one of my recipes!

Also, I don’t think it is a bad way to wrap a tortilla for toasting. But I don;t think it is the best way and here’s why.

It is not that quick

I don’t think it is any quicker than the traditional way. It may be a bit more fiddly to do but not by much and once you have it nailed it is very quick.

The ingredients don’t get mixed together.

So, one of the best things about a toasted sandwich for me is that all the ingredients get mixed together, especially the cheese.

The cheese that melts through everything and creates this gooey and flavourful piece of toasted heaven.

But, with the quick wrap hack you don’t get this. If you follow the technique proper you put different ingredients in each quarter and they don’t get to mix. If you make a toasted tortilla in the classic way or as a quesidilla you get everything mixed in together.

It doesn’t give an even cook

Because the wrap hack technique layers up the tortilla on top of each other and between the ingredients you don’t get the nice even cook you get with a classic toasted tortilla.

As you can see you have one layer of tortilla followed by the filling.

Overall

Overall the tiktok wrap hack technique is a bit of fun, on trend and easy to do. I prefer the classic tortilla but will happily make this again and may play around with it some more to see if I can change my mind.
