Cheese and pepperoni toastie

A lovely pepperoni based toasted sandwich recipe

Now, I wouldn’t call this a pizza toastie but have to admit that it is not far off.

And just like a pizza it makes a really tasty lunch or snack but be prepared it is a little indulgent.

But then sometimes we need a little indulgence in our life and I definitely did when I made this.

The indulgence comes from the layers of cheese and pepperoni that go into this toastie creating a spicy gooey centre. Now, you could cut down on the number of layers but I wouldn’t recommend it as after all we all deserve a little indulgence in our lives from time to time.

Ingredients

I used the following ingredients to make this tasty pepperoni and cheese toastie recipe

• 2 thick cut slices of bread
• 3 slices of Gouda cheese
• A generous amount of sliced pepperoni

Thick cut sliced bread

Thick cut bread is the best for this toastie as it will soak up some of the lovely flavoured oil from the pepperoni.

Gouda Cheese

Gouda cheese melts really well and has a lovely subtle smoked flavour that compliments the pepperoni well.

Sliced pepperoni

Pepperoni is a type of salami that is made from a combination of cured pork and beef. It gets it flavours from a mix of pepper and paprika that are added to the meat before it is cured.

Without a doubt the pepperoni in the star of this toastie with those peppery and paprika flavours that run through every bite.

I didn’t need a lot of equipment to make this toastie. Just my trusted Tower 3-in-1 toasted sandwich maker.

Twists on this recipe

The natural twist to this recipe is to add some pizza sauce to the sandwich and create another variation on a pizza toastie.

Another nice twise would be to add some garlic butter to the sandwich.

This recipe is great on its own but goes well with a generous dollop of sour cream on the side.
